Claude tools
When you connect Claude to Lazy Reader, Claude gets a set of tools it can use on your library. You never call these tools yourself. You ask Claude in plain words, and Claude picks the tool. This page lists every tool so you know what Claude can and cannot do.
The connector address is https://lazyreader.app/mcp. To add it, follow Connect Claude. For example prompts, see Use Claude with your library.
INFO
Claude only works on your own library. It never sees your OpenRouter or SociaVault keys.
Read your library
| Tool | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
list_items | Lists your saved items, newest first, with title, link, status and the start of the summary. Can list archived items, artifacts or books instead. | 20 per call by default, 50 at most. Resources are not in this list. |
search_items | Searches the title and summary of your items, artifacts and books for the words you give. It matches words, not meaning. | 20 results by default, 50 at most. |
get_item | Opens one item with its full summary and the saved full text. For a book: the guide and the chapter list. | Text is cut after 100,000 characters for a book, 200,000 for a designed page. |
Save to your library
| Tool | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
add_item | Saves one link. If Claude sends a summary with it, the item is ready at once and no model runs. Otherwise it is summarized with your OpenRouter key, like any save. | Links must start with http:// or https://. |
import_items | Saves many links at once, for example a list from another service. Links already in your library are left alone. | 50 links per call, 500 new items a day. |
save_artifact | Puts a document Claude wrote in your Artifacts tab, unread until you open it. A designed page is shown exactly as Claude made it. Give it a series name, such as "Daily AI news", to file it as an issue of a series. | Title up to 300 characters, text up to 200,000 characters, a designed page up to 5 MB, 50 artifacts a day. |
Resources
| Tool | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
save_resource | Saves a tool, repo, prompt, skill, reference, book, bookmark or one of your own types to Resources. Without a type, it waits in Review with the type Claude picks. | Needs a link or a pasted text. |
list_resources | Lists your resources, newest first. Can show only one type, one status, or only what waits in Review. | 20 per call by default, 50 at most. |
update_resource | Changes a resource's status, title, text, What it does or Reach for it when. | One resource per call. |
list_resource_types | Lists your types with their color and how many resources each holds. | None. |
create_resource_type | Adds a new type, for a link or for pasted text, with an optional color. | Name up to 80 characters. |
delete_resource_type | Deletes one of your types. If it still holds resources, Claude must say where to move them first. | Your last type can never be deleted. |
resort_resources | Picks the type again for the approved resources of one type and puts them back in Review, each with how sure it is. | 10 per call. Claude calls again until none are left. |
redescribe_resources | Rewrites What it does as 2 or 3 plain sentences, from each resource's own page. Can show the new text first without saving it. | 10 per call. |
Books
| Tool | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
resplit_book | Splits a book again by its real chapters. By default it only shows the old and new chapter list. When you confirm, it makes a new copy that is summarized again with your key, and moves the old copy to Archive. Nothing is deleted. | Not while the book is still being summarized. |
Delete
| Tool | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
delete_items | Deletes saved links, artifacts or books, with their text. The same as the Delete button in the app. | 20 per call. |
delete_series | Deletes every issue of one artifact series. Archived issues stay. | One series per call. |
WARNING
A delete cannot be undone. These two tools, and delete_resource_type, are marked as destructive. Claude normally shows you an approval request before it runs them; read it before you approve. Lazy Reader cannot force that request, so only ask Claude to delete what you really want gone.
What uses your OpenRouter key
Some tools start work inside Lazy Reader that runs on your own OpenRouter key:
add_itemandimport_itemsfor every link sent without a summary.save_resourcewhen Claude leaves out What it does.resort_resources,redescribe_resourcesandresplit_bookwhen it really runs.
These calls are counted in Settings, Usage, like the ones the app makes.
The consent screen
When you connect, Lazy Reader shows a screen titled "Allow access?". It says the app "will be able to list, search and read your items, and add new ones" and that it "never sees your API keys". Press Allow to connect, or Deny to stop.
